Shout out to YouTube's alona chemerys  for posting another beautiful track...goddamn. "Stupid Songs" off Alpharo's debut EP, Stupid Songs , like many off the songs posted by alona chemerys, is sexy, groovy, dreamy, melodic and addictive (seriously). While falling somewhere in the dream pop genre, "Stupid Songs" stands out much like Feng Suave's brilliant " Sink Into the Floor ." There is a soul, an empathetic sound to the collective of the track that is palpable allowing the listener to be engaged with Alpharo in his narrative. Like so often with love songs and sentimentality, there's a lot of perplexity. There is no true coalescing of emotions as different feelings tend to arise simply out of nowhere and fade all together. Thus, is the nature of this song in its lyrics surmised by its lucid instrumentation that is so often accompanied with dream pop. Released on March 1st of this year, "All I've Got" is a groovy, future summer-banger track with production elements not too common with new-era-jive such as samples of distorted dialogue and reversed guitar loops. However, what is consistent and attainable from this song is the need to groove! Published on March 19th of yesterday on the ever so wonderful YouTube channel, TheLazylazyme , I found this track after being exposed to redundant songs for a week. Songs that just go through one ear and out the other without any distinction; just the common dreamy licks and soft vocals of the dream pop genre. It's not to say that it is really a bad thing, but so many bands and artists are using this formula which comes off as a copy rather than inspiration. I will say the new Courtney Barnett song, " Need a Little Time " is another interesting song to come from the upcoming Tell Me How You Really Feel. From alona chemerys , the YouTube channel that brought you " Sink Into the Floor ," comes another groovy and sexy tune, this time from the trio, Triathalon, entitled, "Deep End." Off Triathalon's recent album, Online , "Deep End" is a blunt (pun intended) view of a day off: "Roll the weed up, light it smoke it, like I should," and a "fuck you" to any reverent bullshit of themes that is constantly reiterated and recycled into songs. There are no complexities in its meaning, tone or melodies. It is a consistent, yet beautifully soothing beat with mixed in exaggerations of chords, and a repetition of the chorus until the bridge brings it home "Lately I can't focus/work too much/ and deal with bullshit." Lyrically, it is unapologetically fed up, stressed out, and wanting a break from the normal bullshit that people go through everyday, which is what makes this song friggin' cool. Long time no see! I apologize for my absence it was as if the universe did not want me to contribute to the blog anymore. Finals came around and turned me into a zombie, my laptop suddenly stopped working, which took about two weeks to fix, but the icing on the cake was the concussion I suffered over the holiday season when a puck struck me in the head during practice. So, to make up for lost time, I thought do a post that is just fun for the whole family; a barrel of monkeys if you will. I decided to cover the ten undercover best songs of 2017 that you may have overlooked or had just gone unnoticed due to that damn top 40. You may also notice that most of these entries I had not even posted about, which is not to say that the songs I have been discussing have been bad, but they may been released prior to my blog's inception (and I try to keep these songs as recent as possible) or have slipped under my radar.  10. There must be some sort of 70's revival thing going on, because this is the fourth artist, apart from Angel Olsen , Jadu Heart , and Feng Suave , that I have discussed using a similar 70's motif. "Mary" would be defined as a Dream Pop song but it definitely shows the influence the Major Murphy has taken from cool 70's jams. To more easily describe what I mean, I would say that "Mary," sounds like a mix of an  Eagles  ( even though I fuckin' hate The Eagles! ) and a  Dinosaur Jr  track (even though they are a 90's deal). Not only in the way lead singer, Jacob Bullard serenades, but the smooth, high pitch plucks on the guitar that (Dinosaur Jr-like) and simple, head-nodding beat on the drums (The Eagles-like).  To me, "Mary" is a very diverse track, in it's thematic approach, but Major Murphy makes the narrative pretty consistent. Now this is some groovy and trippy shit. I have thrown up some love for Feng Suave's song, " Sink into the Floor ," and I commented how soulful, vibey and psychedelic that song was but "Harry Brompton's Ice Tea," takes those elements to a high experimental level. What gave "Sink into the Floor" the psychedelic vibe, was its pulsating and consistent bass line. In "Harry Brompton's Ice Tea," the bass line is not just pulsating but takes the focus of the song and makes you feel like your ears are at the end of a kaleidoscope and it's some cool vibes. Especially when the chorus hits, "down to the river that made us," you can just imagine the bass player having the biggest bass-face any bass player has ever had. "Sink into the Floor" is a groovy-ass tune off the Daniel duo's latest self-titled ep, Feng Suave , available now. To me, this song is so reminiscent of a bluesy, and psychedelic rock song that came out of the early 70's, with its soulful vocals and dreamy guitar licks. However, Feng Suave is not the only group producing such a blues-oriented sound today; another good example is Michael Kiwanuka and his recently released album, Love and Hate  who mixes influences of blues, soul and rock, much like Feng Suave. Nonetheless, this song is probably one of my favorite releases of this year thus far, rivaling the likes of " Garden Shed " by Tyler, the Creator, and that song was tiiight. The melodic, and melancholy guitar, sounds like the guitar is melting just as he's playing it, and the accompanying bass is a reverberating and psychedelic pulse that seems to blur the foundations of the song, making it seem like we are in a dream-like state.
